Abstract

The aim of this study was to analyze how Koreans' perception of inequality affects their perception of state responsibility. It examined whether inequality perception affects equality-oriented perception and equity-oriented perception, and analyzed how inequality perception, equality-oriented perception, and equity-oriented perception play a mediating role in the perception of state responsibility. For this purpose, an online survey of 312 adults aged 18 or older was conducted. In order to identify the purpose of the study, the Reliability and Validity of the study variables were verified, and a Structural Equation Modeling was implemented to verify the path hypothesis. The results were as follow: First of all, the perception of inequality had an effect on the perception of equality orientation, equity orientation, and national responsibility. Moreover, the perception of equality orientation did not have a significant effect on the perception of state responsibility. Finally, the perception of equity orientation had an impact on the perception of national responsibility. Consequently, this study has suggested that the government's policy intervention has needed to reduce inequality. To implement findings, inequality awareness education and value education would be necessary. It has seemed essential to carry out the following studies with a more significant number of participants to generalize the results. Furthermore, the follow-up studies would include subdivided variables for specific policy proposals.
